Good Morning America EP Was Under Consideration For Trump Comms Role

By A.J. Katz

Good Morning America co-executive producer Chris Vlasto was considered for a senior communications role in the Trump administration, possibly as White House communications director, according to a report published by POLITICO earlier this evening. Per the report, Vlasto, the executive producer for the newscast’s 7 a.m. hour, “has already had meetings at Trump Tower with senior staff in the last month.”

Vlasto was promoted from senior broadcast producer to ep of the 7 a.m. hour in July, 2014.

The rumors make sense considering Vlasto’s family history. His father James Vlasto is a well known political adviser who served as press secretary for former New York Gov. Hugh Carey (D), and his half brother Josh Vlasto was at one time a spokesman for Sen. Chuck Schumer, and later a deputy communications director and chief of staff for New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).

CNN New Day co-host Chris Cuomo and Vlasto are close, although if this report is any indication, their political leanings may not be.

UPDATE: Vlasto put out a statement at 7:15 p.m. ET: “I was approached about a job in the new administration.  I had preliminary conversations with the transition team, and I’ve taken my name out of consideration.”
