GMA’s Lara Spencer Apologizes On-Air for ‘Insensitive’ and ‘Stupid’ Ballet Comments

Good Morning America co-anchor Lara Spencer apologized on-air this morning for her “insensitive” and “stupid” comments last week during a segment about Prince George’s ballet lessons.

“I screwed up. The comment I made about dance was insensitive, it was stupid and I’m deeply sorry,” Spencer said, adding that she had spoken with several members of the dance community over the weekend following the backlash from her comments. “I have listened; I have learned about the bravery it takes for a young boy to pursue a career in dance.”

Following her apology, GMA aired an interview that Spencer conducted over the weekend with male ballet dancers Travis Wall, Fabrice Calmels and Robbie Fairchild. The trio talked about their own experiences and told Spencer they accepted her apology.

During a segment last Thursday, Spencer poked fun at Prince George’s love of ballet lessons. “Prince William says George absolutely loves ballet. I have news for you, Prince William: We’ll see how long that lasts,” she said.

Her comments quickly sparked a backlash on social media, leading Spencer to issue an apology via Instagram on Saturday.
