GMA Weekend’s “Listening Tour”

By Brian

Good Morning America Weekend is ABC’s “fledgling attempt to get back into the weekend news business after abandoning the field to cartoons and church shows for several years,” Glenn Garvin writes in today’s Miami Herald. And “after two years on the air, the weekend GMA is climbing steadily in the ratings — especially in Miami, where the Saturday audience is up 29 percent over last year and Sunday’s up 9 percent.”

Co-anchors Kate Snow and Bill Weir are in the middle of a nine-city tour where they’re “schmoozing with affiliate stations, as well as researching a feature package on what Americans consider the perfect weekend.”

“We’ve been on the air two years and we haven’t really gotten out to see people at the stations that carry the show,” Weir says. “You know, hear their concerns and how we could make the show better for them. I guess you could call it a listening tour…”
