Fox News host Glenn Beck opened his keynote address at CPAC this evening acknowledging last year’s keynoter Rush Limbaugh.
Then, a few minutes in, to shouts of “We love you Glenn,” Beck brought out his trademark chalkboard. “You have no idea what it’s like to travel with one of these things.” Writing out progressivism, Beck said, “This is the disease in this nation.”
For just short of an hour Beck paced the stage railing against everyone from Van Jones to Theodore Roosevelt, from Woodrow Wilson to Tiger Woods. He criticized republicans and their spending ways, even equating them to Woods: “You got caught, are you sorry?” he asked.
Beck, who worked up a sweat during the speech (“I’m like Elvis”), spent much of his time giving a history lesson about America in the 1920’s and 1930’s, implying that what happened then, is being repeated now.
Beck’s crescendo came when he quoted the famous Emma Lazarus sonnet “The Colossus,” lines from which are engraved at the base of the Statue of Liberty.
Fox News Channel and C-SPAN carried Beck’s remarks. CNN and MSNBC did not.
