Gibson’s Going to Kansas City

By Alissa Krinsky

In advance of anchoring World News from Kansas City tomorrow and Friday, Charlie Gibson is interviewed by the Kansas City Star’s Aaron Barnhart, who asks about evening news ratings. “I read them, I pay attention to them, but … I don’t know what the importance of (ratings) is,” Gibson says. “Nor do I know what drives them.”

And on why he has not reported from Iraq: “A couple of reasons,” Gibson replies. “Number one, as a news organization we’ve just had a terrible experience with Bob Woodruff. David Westin and I have had a number of discussions about when it would be valuable for me to go over and David has just been very reluctant to have me go. I understand, and there’s been nothing so compelling for me to go. (Second), Martha Raddatz has been over there 14 or 15 times. She’s over there right now. I think overall, our coverage is better than anybody’s.”
