Gibson Will Keep Waking Up By 4 a.m.

In turning to Elizabeth Vargas and Bob Woodruff, “ABC bypassed one of its biggest and most established stars: Charles Gibson, the co-host of ‘Good Morning America,'” the NYT’s Jacques Steinberg says. “In keeping Mr. Gibson, 62, in his present job alongside Diane Sawyer and Robin Roberts, the network appeared to be making two big bets on the fortunes of the rapidly evolving network news business.”

Gibson has been filling in on World News Tonight, but he “was told last Thursday he would not be given the anchor chair permanently,” a source tells TV Week.
