Gibson to WNT: Morning Paper Quotables

By Brian

“This is a little bit back to the future,” Charlie Gibson says of his new World News Tonight assignment. Here are some of his comments in this morning’s papers:

> USAT: “It’s been an extraordinary turn of events, and I feel somewhat like a creature of circumstance. It’s like if you roll a bowling ball and you knock down all the pins and all of a sudden there’s the eight pin still standing.”

> NYT: “I am not a particular fan of two people sitting next to each other in a studio. It’s a half-hour broadcast.”

> WP: “Do you need two people sitting on a set together, 6:30 at night? No, you don’t.”

> NYT: Gibson says he never really imagined anchoring WNT. “I was always aware Peter was going to be in that chair for the span of my career at ABC News.”

> LAT: Gibson says he has one simple goal for his tenure: “Just to be steady.”

> PI: “I probably won’t be in this chair 22 years like Peter. Mike Wallace gives me inspiration. A lot of this is in the ether… Literally everything will depend on circumstances. We’ll see how it goes.”
