Gibbs Loses Bet, Wears Canadian Hockey Jersey in WH Briefing

White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs walked into today’s White House briefing wearing a Canadian hockey jersey, which was met with plenty of laughter from the White House correspondents. Gibbs explained, “I’m making good on my aspect of my wager with Dimitri [Soudas], my Canadian, counterpart who is several hundred miles north, laughing.”

He added that one case of Molson Canadian and one case of Yuengling Lager were to be delivered to the Prime Minister’s office today. After a moment, he switched to a team USA jersey.

ABC’s Jake Tapper said it might be confusing to viewers if he appeared on the news that night talking about health care in a hockey jersey. Gibbs joked that it “can’t be any stranger than any of the things I see on the news.” Tapper said, “I’m just glad it was a hockey and not a wrestling bet.”
