George Stephanopoulos Wins on Three Different Shows in the Same Week

By Merrill Knox

GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOSIt’s good to be George Stephanopoulos. Last week, he anchored three different broadcasts — his usual “Good Morning America” and “This Week” shows, plus one additional night filling in for Diane Sawyer at the “World News” anchor desk — and managed to notch ratings wins on all three.

The “GMA” victory is nothing new, as ABC has a 76-week streak going in the mornings. But the Sunday shows remain a competitive three-way race between “This Week,” NBC’s “Meet the Press” and CBS’ “Face the Nation.” On February 2, Stephanopoulos’ broadcast won in both total viewers and the demo, delivering its best total viewer performance in nearly 5 years and its best demo performance in 15 months.

The bonus win was on “World News,” which edged out “NBC Nightly News” for a win in the A25-54 demo on January 29.
