Fusion Makes New Hires for Investigative Unit

Fusion has announced a series of new hires for the network’s investigative unit, with Justine Gubar joining Fusion as supervising producer of investigations. Gubar arrives in Miami from ESPN, where she worked on Outside the Lines and SportsCenter.

Other new hires include Catherine Dunn, a freelancer who worked with Fusion on its Panama Papers reporting, has been named a New York City-based reporter; Deirdre Funcheon joins Fusion’s Miami newsroom as a writer for digital investigations from Florida’s New Times Broward-Palm Beach.

Fusion announced its cross-platform investigative franchise, The Naked Truth, in January. At that time executive producer of investigations Keith Summa told TVNewser the franchise would be the work of “one of the most dynamic teams of young journalists” ready to question and challenge all kinds of powerful institutions. Since then, the franchise has been nominated for an Emmy Award, and Fusion has doubled the size of its investigative staff.

Two other Fusion staffers, Sarah McClure and Ani Ucar, have been promoted to associate producers.
