Fusion Cuts 6 From Doc Unit

Fusion TV, the Doral, Fla.-based TV network that is part of the Fusion Media Group, is cutting nearly half of its documentary staff, laying off 6 members of a 13-person group.

“As we broaden the scope of programming on the network we are making some changes, that has included how we produce our award-winning original documentaries,” said Fusion spokesman David Ford. “Impact programming is an important part of FUSION’s content mix and our in-house team plans to partner with a broader range of filmmakers, documentarians and investigative journalists.”

The company also plans more long-form investigative programming from editorial teams across FMG which includes digital properties like Deadspin, Jezebel and The Root. Fusion is also going to be available in more homes. Starting February 28, Spectrum customers in New York and Los Angeles will have access to Fusion.

FMG is also working with Netflix in the co-production of three new Spanish-language dramas and two new docu-series. Last year, the companies partnered on El Chapo, which began airing on Univision last April, then streamed on Netflix a few months later.
