Fredricka Whitfield to Apologize for Calling Police Attack ‘Courageous and Brave’

By Chris Ariens

Fredricka Whitfield is expected to apologize today for her sloppy choice of words during breaking news coverage of a shooting attack on Dallas Police Headquarters Saturday.

Just after 1 p.m. ET–two hours in to her four hour anchor shift–Whitfield was discussing the shooting with CNN legal analyst Philip Holloway, when she said: “It was very courageous and brave–if not crazy as well–to open fire on police headquarters.”

We’re told Whitfield will explain the comments on her show today. The remarks came just hours after an ill-advised tweet from CNN anchor Christi Paul who, while covering the attack for New Day, posed with some popcorn during a commercial break. “Glad everyone is OK so far!” she tweeted.

> Update: On her show Sunday afternoon, Whitfield said she “misspoke” and in know way believes “the gunman was courageous nor brave.”
