Fox News Sues Senate Campaign

Fox News Channel has sued the U.S. Senate campaign of Democrat Robin Carnahan in Missouri.

At issue is an interview anchor Chris Wallace conducted with Roy Blunt, Carnahan’s Republican opponent.

The network alleges that the Carnahan campaign used a clip from the interview in a campaign ad, editing it such that it appeared the network was endorsing her over Blunt.

According to court documents obtained by Bloomberg News:

“The Carnahan ad is designed to make it appear as if Wallace — a trusted journalist — is instead speaking as a campaign operative,” Fox said in the complaint, which also lists Wallace as a plaintiff…

The network said Carnahan, a Democrat, infringed its copyright by using in a 32-second campaign advertisement a 2006 Wallace interview with Blunt, a Republican U.S. congressman. Wallace was questioning Blunt about whether he was the best candidate for House majority leader at the time.

Fox News, like the other news channels, does not officially endorse any political candidates.
