Fox News, MSNBC Accused of Creative Editing

Media Matters and Hot Air have accused Fox News and MSNBC, separately and respectively, of misidentifying key facts on-air regarding a town hall meeting and a health care reform rally.

First, MM claims “Fox & Friends” co-host Steve Doocy misrepresented an exchange Rep. Barney Frank had at a recent town hall meeting with a woman holding a photo that drew comparisons between President Obama and Hitler while accusing him of supporting a “nazi policy.” Here is their clip:

Also this week, Hot Air writes about this clip of a man with a semi-automatic weapon followed by MSNBC hosts discussing the appearance of firearms at health care rallies and related racial overtones. MSNBC’s Contessa Brewer notes: “Here you have a man of color in the presidency and white people showing up with guns strapped to their waist or to their legs.” Here is the clip Hot Air posted:

As Hot Air points out, the camera never panned up far enough in the initial shot to reveal that the gun enthusiast was an African-American man. An MSNBC spokesperson told Politico’s Michael Calderone that “Contessa was speaking generally and not about that specific person with the automatic weapon.” You can see CNN’s report about the same armed man after the jump.
