For the second time in as many days, Fox News has had to suspend the contract of a contributor for political reasons.
In today’s case, FNC and former Georgia congressman and possible Donald Trump Vice President pick Newt Gingrich is setting aside his TV job, for now.
“FOX News Channel has mutually agreed to suspend its contributor agreement with Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich effective immediately,” said Jay Wallace, evp of news. “Due to the intense media speculation about Gingrich’s potential selection as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, we felt it best to halt his contributor role on the network to avoid all conflicts of interest that may arise.”
Gingrich was a Fox News analyst in 2011 when his contract then was cut short as he ran for the GOP nomination. In 2013, Gingrich joined CNN as a panelist for the re-booted Crossfire. He remained a contributor after the show’s cancellation before returning to Fox News.
Yesterday, Fox News suspended the contributor contract of former Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh who announced he was running for his old seat.
