Fox News and CNN Share Honors on Wisconsin Primary Night

There were no real surprises from last night on the cable news ratings front. Fox News won the Wisconsin primary night in total viewers and CNN won the 25-54 demographic.

According to preliminary Nielsen data, Fox News Channel delivered 3 million total viewers during the prime time daypart (8 – 11 p.m). CNN delivered 1.9 million total viewers, and MSNBC brought in 1.5 million. Fox News also finished No. 1 in total viewers during the live coverage block ( 7 p.m. – 2 a.m.), delivering a 2 million viewer average. CNN averaged 1.3 million total viewers, and MSNBC scored 1.1 million.

CNN hauled in 650,000 viewers in the news demo, defeating Fox News (601,000) and MSNBC (378,000) in the prime time daypart. CNN was also No. 1 in the news demo during the aforementioned live coverage block (7 p.m. – 2 a.m.), delivering 451,000 viewers during that interval. Fox News averaged 442,000 viewers in the demo, while MSNBC brought in 296,000.

CNN will broadcast the next Democratic debate live from Brooklyn, N.Y., on Thursday, April 14.  It will be moderated by CNN’s Wolf Blitzer. CNN’s chief political correspondent Dana Bash and NY1 host and CNN commentator Errol Louis join as questioners.
