Fox Cancels OJ: “Your Outrage Has Been Noticeable,” Shep Smith Says

Shep Smith‘s remarks on Studio B at 3:24pm:

“Some of you who watch my programs may have noticed that I have not mentioned the word O.J. Simpson during the course of the controversy because I don’t see it as news and I found it disgusting. Didn’t talk about at 3pm on Studio B, didn’t talk about it on 7pm on The Fox Report one time.

Now we know News Corp. and Fox News — err, Fox Broadcasting, which is in no way connected to Fox News — has decided to cancel the publication of the O.J. book and cancel the broadcast of the O.J. interview. As you know, this has been billed as ‘If I Did It: Here’s How It Happened.'” Well, I’ve never been able to find out what was in that book. I’ve never been able to find out what the details were. I’ve never been able to find out what was in the interview. Until we could, we weren’t going to talk about it on my programs at least. Well today the Fox Broadcasting Network, which is owned by the parent company of our network, has just announced that it is cancelling the broadcast of the O.J. interview.”

> Update: 3:46pm: “Your outrage has been noticeable,” Shep continued. “I’ve gotten hundreds and hundreds of e-mails saying ‘don’t run this.’ We never were. This was the Fox Broadcasting Network — something, quite frankly, over which we have almost no influence. But apparently you do…”
