FBN Is No. 1 in Business Day, Posts Double-Digit Year-Over-Year Viewer Growth in Q2

By A.J. Katz

Led by anchors Stuart Varney, Neil Cavuto, Trish Regan and Liz Claman, Fox Business Network continues to attract a substantial audience in Business Day (Mon-Fri, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.). For Q2 2018, FBN averaged 203,000 Business Day viewers, more than rival CNBC. It has now been No. 1 for 7 consecutive quarters in business day viewers.

FBN also managed to post double digit year-over-year total audience growth in Business Day (+17 percent), and across the 24-hour day (+29 percent). Posting double digit audience growth is a rarity these days really for any cable TV network, and FBN accomplished that feat in 2 different dayparts. FBN also had 6 of the top 7  business programs on cable for the quarter in total viewers:

Lou Dobbs Tonight (319,000), Varney & Co (255,000), Countdown to Closing Bell with Liz Claman (193,000), After the Bell (186,000), Squawk on the Street (182,000), Cavuto Coast to Coast (172,000) and The Intelligence Report with Trish Regan (169,000).

Mornings with Maria (6-9 a.m. ET) anchored by Maria Bartiromo delivered a record breaking quarter in total viewers (109,000). The former CNBC star also managed to defeat her 6-9 a.m. timeslot competition in total viewers.

Additionally, FBN closed out the month of June No. 1 in both Business Day and Total Day viewers, and it grew its audience +6 percent in June.

One issue for Fox Business is that its audience tends to skew older, as we find by the numbers below. Yes, FBN is having some success in drawing total viewers, but it will be interesting to see if the network will ever be able to overtake CNBC when it comes to drawing the younger news demos.
