Brian Williams and Charles Gibson anchored special broadcasts remembering Gerald Ford yesterday. But Katie Couric was vacationing out of the country, and CBS said she would be back to anchor the CBS Evening News from New York tonight.
But there’s been a change of plans. Russ Mitchell will anchor the Evening News again tonight, according to internal notes.
Here’s the new plan, according to a CBS spokesperson: “The plan is to bring Couric back to anchor CBS News’ coverage of the events and ceremonies related to the Ford funeral. Late yesterday, it was announced that the first of those events would be Friday afternoon. Couric will anchor that coverage as well as all CBS News special coverage this weekend and next week.”
