For First Time in 6 Years, 4 NBC Shows Win 25-54 Demo

By Chris Ariens

Dateline NBC is among four NBC News shows to finish the 2015-16 season No. 1 in the ad-friendly A25-54 demo. The last time Today, NBC Nightly News, Meet the Press and Dateline all won the season in the demo was the 2010-11 season.

“This success is the result of a spectacular team effort,” writes NBC News president Deborah Turness in a note to staff. “The power of NBC News means that we are able to work together across all our shows and platforms, our digital and social channels, combined with our including our ever-closer relationship with MSNBC, to promote and amplify all of that great content.”

Dateline edged ABC’s 20/20 on Fridays in the demo, winning by just 26,000 viewers or 2 percent (1.683M vs. 1.682M). Among total viewers, Dateline averaged 4.78 million for its Friday editions, giving it its fourth consecutive season win over 20/20 which averaged 4.73 million.)

Here’s Turness’s full note:

All,

Today is a very proud day for all of us at NBC News. As final ratings are announced for the 2015-16 broadcast year, I am pleased to share that ALL four of our broadcasts, TODAY, Nightly News, Meet the Press and Dateline, are #1 in the most valuable measurement in news – the 25-54 demographic. The last time that happened was the 2010-11 season. All four shows are also #1 in the 18-49 demographic, and Nightly News is #1 in total viewers, completing a most impressive clean sweep across the board for the broadcast.

This success is the result of a spectacular team effort. Together we have focused on high-quality journalism, enterprise reporting, exclusive interviews and adventurous storytelling. And the power of NBC News means that we are able to work together across all our shows and platforms, our digital and social channels, combined with our including our ever-closer relationship with MSNBC, to promote and amplify all of that great content.

Every single person at NBC News has contributed to this story. Without your hard work and dedication in this incredible year of non-stop news none of it would have been possible. I hope you will all take a moment today to reflect and to celebrate your success.

Thank you for all you do each and every day.

Deborah
