In a conversation with Greta Van Susteren, Fox News Channel Supreme Court correspondent Shannon Bream admits she never liked being a lawyer, but loves covering the Supreme Court. “I think, gosh, I’m just some kid from Tallahassee, Florida” who has interviewed the president at the White House, and even come to consider one or two Supreme Court justices among her friends. “I feel very privileged to do what I do.”

Van Susteren notes that covering the Supreme Court is hardly an easy gig–high profile, but loaded with nuance that doesn’t easily translate into a clean TV news package. “I think the Supreme Court is the toughest assignment, how you can take a huge, important decision and squash it down to a minute thirty in plain language so that I understand it, I’m in awe of you,” she told Bream on her “Greta Talk” radio show.

Bream also spoke in personal terms about her personal struggles–a health scare involving her husband, and the care of her beloved dog, for whom she and her husband cook their own homemade dog food. Bream’s willingness to talk about the hardly glamorous side of life away from the Fox News cameras has endeared her to fans. Just today, she described a doctor’s office visit that took an awkward turn:
