FNC Exec: “We’re Paying Attention to the Non-News Networks Because Now We Want to Catch Them”

THR’s James Hibberd gets a jump on next week’s final June and Q2 cable news ratings with a story on the continued Fox News dominance.

With the second quarter coming to a close, Fox News averaged about the same number of viewers as the top three other cable news networks combined. And while rivals including CNN (down 22 percent) and MSNBC (down 18 percent) took hits following last quarter’s inauguration-fueled boost, Fox News (down 3 percent) remained nearly steady.

As it did last week, FNC could finish the quarter as the third most-watched ad supported cable channel after USA and TNT.

When asked about the competition, [SVP Bill] Shine said, “The numbers speak for themselves. … If anything, we’re paying attention to the non-news networks because now we want to catch them.”

• TVNewser will have final numbers for the month of June and the second quarter next Monday and Tuesday.
