Evening Newsers Read Trump Tweet On Air

CBS Evening News anchor Scott Pelley and ABC World News Tonight anchor David Muir had their smartphones at their sides during their newscasts last night, awaiting reaction to the 9th Circuit Court ruling which prevented the reinstatement of Pres. Trump’s immigration order.

The ruling happened just after 6 p.m. ET, enough time to lead the three newscasts. But reaction continued to come in during the newscasts, including this tweet, sent at 6:35, by the president.

At 6:37 p.m. CBS’s Scott Pelley looked down at his phone and said, “We now have more breaking news. It does look like the travel ban case will be headed to the Supreme Court. Donald Trump has just tweeted–and I quote–‘See you in court. The security of our nation is at stake.'”

MuirTweetAt the same time, ABC’s David Muir, in a cross-talk with Cecilia Vega on her story about Judge Gorsuch, said, “We know the president has reacted just moments ago to this decision by the circuit court saying, ‘See you in court. The security of our nation is at stake.'”

As for NBC News, the tweet was part of Pete Williams’s updated story in the 7 p.m. feed of Nightly News.
