Evening News Ratings: Week of October 31

By Chris Ariens

ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir has won its 4th week in a row, and its 6th win in the first 7 weeks of the season. ABC edged NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt by +137,000 viewers. Nightly News maintained its No. 1 spot among the A25-54 demo, with a +166,00 viewer lead over ABC.

All three newscasts were down compared to the same week last year. The week of Nov. 2, 2015 saw the return of Standard Time which typically brings viewers back to the evening newscasts as the days get “shorter.” Given the election this week as well as the return to Standard Time, the networks should see a viewer gain when we compile this ratings post next Tuesday.

World News Tonight’s viewer lead in the evenings is its first in 9 years – since the 2007-08 season.
