Evening News Ratings: Week of Nov. 28

By A.J. Katz

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt won across the board for the second consecutive week, delivering its best demo audience since Election Week and its largest margin of victory in the demo since October. Despite the victories, Nightly saw a -5 percent decline in total viewers, and a -3 percent decline in the key news demo from the comparable week in 2015, a week when the evening newscasts provided expanded coverage on all networks following the terror attack in San Bernardino, CA.

Due to its broadcast of Thursday Night Football, last week’s ratings for Nightly were based on a 4-day average, while CBS and ABC ratings were based on the usual 5-day average.

ABC World News Tonight with David Muir finished No. 2 in the key categories this past week, and was the only evening newscast to grow from the same week last year in total viewers (+2 percent). The program is winning the evening newscast race in total viewers this season to-date for first time in 18 years, but continues to lose traction among adults 25-54.
