Evening News Ratings: Week of May 20 and May Sweeps

For the week of May 20, 2013, all three evening newscast grew their viewership compared to the same week last year. Last week, the networks spent considerable time covering a deadly tornado and its aftermath in Moore, OK. It was two years ago that week the evening newscasts found themselves in Joplin, MO covering a tornado there.

“NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” was #1 again followed by “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” and the “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley.” Once again it is the CBS broadcast that is seeing the most growth: +10% in viewers and +8% in the A25-54 demo. ABC was up +3% in viewers and +7% in the demo. NBC was up +4% / +2%, respectively.

As for the May sweep:

“Nightly News” wins another sweeps month, growing its viewership +3% vs. last May. “World News” was flat year-over-year, while the “CBS Evening News” saw +8% viewership growth, but was down -2% among younger viewers.
