Evening News Ratings: Week of March 23

By Chris Ariens

“NBC Nightly News” with Lester Holt holds the No. 1 spot among total viewers while “World News Tonight with David Muir” takes the younger demo by the widest margin in 12 weeks.

The week of March 23 will be the final week the Nielsen average will include the overnight reruns of “NBC Nightly News,” though NBC still plans to air the re-broadcast in 10 markets across the country. ABC had complained the re-airs gave NBC an unfair advantage. With NBC’s +130,000 viewer advantage, it’s unlikely ABC would have overtaken NBC last week.

Compared to the same week last year only “WNT” saw total viewer growth: up +4%. “Nightly” was down -10% and “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” was down -11%. All three broadcasts lost viewers in the A25-54 demo: NBC -14%, ABC -4% and CBS down -24%.
