NBC Nightly News anchored by Lester Holt regained the No. 1 spot in the evenings among total viewers leading ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir by just .7 percent. Muir’s newscast is No. 1 in the adults 25-54 demo, leading NBC by 1.7 percent.
Meanwhile, the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, while still a distant third, closed the viewership gap with NBC by nearly 1 million viewers and is up +5 percent in both viewers and the demo compared to the same week last year.
Nightly News has been No. 1 in total viewers for 3 of the last 4 weeks, but is the only broadcast down in both viewers and the demo vs. last year, down -7 percent and down -4 percent, respectively.
World News Tonight is up the most in both measurements: up +11 percent in viewers and up +6 percent in the demo, and continues to lead season-to-date in the demo with a very slight .2 percent lead over Nightly News.
For the first time since taking over for Brian Williams in February, Holt is getting a week of vacation this week. Savannah Guthrie is filling in.
