ABC’s “World News with Diane Sawyer” has won its first week in the A25-54 demo in more than four years, unseating “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” which had won the previous 243 weeks. The royal baby news appears to have been a draw for ABC News over its competitors. “World News” also had Robin Roberts’ interview with George Zimmerman juror B29 on Thursday. With a +38,000 viewer advantage, this is ABC’s largest demo margin over “Nightly” in five years.
Compared to the same week last year, which included coverage of the Aurora, CO theater massacre and the London Olympics Opening Ceremony, “Nightly” was down -11% in viewers and down -22% in the demo. “World News” was up +2% in viewers and up less than +1% in the demo, and “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” was flat in viewers and down -11% in the demo.
“Nightly” was still on top in total viewers with a +249,000 advantage over “World News.”
