Evening News Ratings: Week of July 16

Similar to the morning show race, ABC continues to be No. 1 in total viewers, while NBC is No. 1 among adults 25-54 in the evenings.

World News Tonight with David Muir more than doubled its lead year-over-year total viewer lead over NBC Nightly News this past week (+120 percent), and was the most-watched evening newscast for the 23rd consecutive week. Season to date, WNT is delivering its largest viewership in 13 years – since the 2004-05 season.

Compared to the same week last year, World News posted +4 percent growth in total viewers. That said, the newscast did see a -1 percent year-over-year dip in adults 25-54.

NBC Nightly News With Lester Holt continues to win the demographic that matters the most to advertisers: Adults 25-54. This past week, NBC’s evening newscast was flat in total viewers, and -1 percent among adults 25-54 vs. the comparable week in 2017.

In addition to defeating World News Tonight among adults 25-54, Nightly News is delivering its largest demo lead over CBS in six seasons.

Speaking of CBS, Jeff Glor is coming off what’s probably the most significant week of his career in journalism. His interview with President Trump in the White House last week was spread out across multiple CBS News programs, and aired on Wednesday and Thursday.

But despite spreading over multiple broadcasts, Evening News was -1 percent in total viewers, and -5 percent in adults 25-54 from the comparable week in 2017. BUT the newscast averaged its most adults 25-54 since the week of May 28.
