Evening News Ratings: Week of Jan. 5

evening news_640As winter sets in, more Americans are back in front of their TVs in the evenings. Last week, the three evening newscasts averaged 29.2 million viewers.

“NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” took the week in both total viewers and the A25-54 demo. Williams hasn’t lost a week in more than 5 years in viewers. In the demo, the show had its 7th win in the last 10 weeks. Compared to the same week last year, “Nightly” was flat in viewers and down -2% in the demo.

ABC’s “World News Tonight with David Muir” was up +5% in total viewers vs. the same week last year and closed the gap -38% with “Nightly.” The show was down -2% in the demo.

The “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” showed the most growth: up +8% year-over-year, and drew its biggest audience since the week of Sept. 5, 2006, when Katie Couric debuted on the “CBS Evening News.”
