Evening News Ratings: Week of Jan. 4

By Chris Ariens

In the first full week of the New Year, ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir wins its second week in a row in total viewers. The ABC broadcast hasn’t won back-to-back weeks since April and is having its biggest season-to-date audience in 11 years, since the 2004-05 season.

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt won the A25-54 demo for the sixth week in a row, and did it with a 10 percent lead over the Muir newscast. With more than 8.2 million viewers, the CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley had its best audience delivery since February.

Compared to the same week last year all three newscasts were down, but the week of Jan. 5, 2015 saw a big draw for the evening newscasts–the biggest for CBS Evening News in 9 years.
