Evening News Ratings: Week of December 11

ABC World News Tonight remains the most-watched evening newscast.

The David Muir-anchored newscast not only finished No. 1 last week in total viewers, but it was the only newscast to post audience growth vs. the same week in 2016 (+4 percent). WNT is ranking No. 1 in total viewers for the season for the second year in a row, is up +3 percent in total viewers compared to the same point last season, and is currently delivering its largest total audience since the 2004-2005 season.

NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt, however, remains the go-to evening newscast among adults 25-54, which the demo that means the most to advertisers of TV news. Nightly has now finished No. 1 in the demo for 78 consecutive weeks and 123 of the last 124.

That said, the newscast was -4 percent in total viewers and -6 percent in the news demo versus last year.

The CBS Evening News with Jeff Glor was also down year-over-year, -11 percent in viewers and down -18 percent in the demo.

Compared to his debut week, Glor was -5 percent in viewers but actually improved +2 percent in the demo.

Due to NFL football, NBC Nightly News is based on a four-day average (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday). CBS and ABC are based on five-day averages.

The averages for the week of Dec. 11:

  • Total Viewers: ABC: 9.323 M / NBC: 8.882 M / CBS: 6.711 M
  • A25-54 viewers: ABC: 1.914 M / NBC: 2.071 M / CBS: 1.405 M
