Evening News Ratings: Week of August 19

While still in third place in the ratings race, the “CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley” showed the most total viewer growth last week: up +7% compared to the same week last year.

And the gap among the newscasts is narrowing. 2.35 million viewers separated “Nightly” and “Evening News” last year. This year the gap was 1.32 million. Last year, “Nightly” was 757,000 viewers ahead of “World News with Diane Sawyer.” Last week, the gap was 174,000.

“Nightly News” lost -8% of its viewership year-over-year, while “World News with Diane Sawyer” was down a slight -1%.

Among younger viewers, all three broadcasts shed viewers: “Nightly” was down -14%, “Evening News” was down -7% and “World News” was down -3%.
