Erin Burnett: CNBC’s “New Maria?”

“CNBC is now paying a stiff public-relations price for building a celebrity culture around” Maria Bartiromo, Marketwatch’s Jon Friedman writes. A tipster says the column is “going around CNBC e-mail files like a flu bug on a jetliner!”

At the end, Friedman says “CNBC should recognize that it has a deep bench among its newcomers. Its anchor Erin Burnett, by all indications, is poised to become a breakout star. She has a calm on-air demeanor, a pleasing chatty style and a keen understanding of financial news.

If Bartiromo ever decided to leave CNBC, Burnett could be the network’s new Maria. I guess we’ll know that Burnett’s star is on the ascent as soon as she is permitted to begin taking lavish plane flights and behaving like a diva, too…”
