Yesterday, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra said “there are a couple of guys crying in the locker room right now,” after his team’s 87-86 home loss to the Chicago Bulls.
Well, Coach Spo is backtracking on his original comments and blaming the media (surprise!) for overanalyzing his statement.
“This is a classic example of sensationalism, looking for a headline,” Spoelstra said on Monday. “I really think you guys are probably reaching for this. Guys were very emotional about it in the locker room. Heads were down. I saw glossy eyes, but that’s about it. I think everything else is probably an exaggeration.”
You know why it’s NOT an exaggeration? Because you said “there are a couple of guys crying in the locker room right now.”
Don’t make the media your scapegoat. Nobody asked you if your players were crying in the locker room. You handed the media that gem and they ran with it.
