Erica Hill Leaving Weekend Today

By Chris Ariens

Erica Hill is getting her weekends back. This morning was Hill’s last co-anchoring the Weekend Today show.

“It’s tough. I love, love, love this crew so much,” said an emotional Hill at the end of today’s show. “But that triple duty had me here six and even seven days a week. I’m moving my home base across the street [to MSNBC and NBC Nightly News].”

Hill, who joined Weekend Today in 2012 after a 4-year stint at CBS’s Early Show, will increase her anchor hours on MSNBC and reporting for Nightly News which has more closely aligned itself with NBC News.

Hill’s former Weekend Today co-anchor Lester Holt surprised her on her final show this morning.

The news comes as NBC is preparing to retool the Sunday edition of Today naming Willie Geist solo anchor. As we reported last week, that change will happen two weeks from today.

The NBC News/MSNBC anchor exchange program has been going on since the 2016 election became a ratings hit. Chuck Todd, Kate Snow, Craig Melvin, Tamron Hall, Chris Jansing and Geist, all anchor hours on MSNBC while reporting and anchoring on NBC.
