Eric Burns On Why Bias Does Not Mean Biased

Former Fox News Watch host Eric Burns left the network after his contract wasn’t renewed earlier this year, but it doesn’t mean he stopped watching the news.

He writes about the changes at “one of my favorite news programs,” Countdown with Keith Olbermann, in a Huffington Post column.

Prefacing the column with how “proud” he was that viewers could never determine his political leanings while on FNC, he described the MSNBC program. “MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann has become less a newscast than a crusade against the Bush variety of Republicanism,” he writes. “And the new program following Countdown, The Rachel Maddow Show, is following the same path. The same warpath.”

But then he veers a different direction — explaining what makes Olbermann and Maddow so biased. “Because the Republicans are providing them with so much material that their bias is, at its core, a form of objectivity. They are not partisan so much as perceptive,” writes Burns.
