Diane Sawyer‘s one-hour 20/20 special, profiling her ABC News colleague Elizabeth Vargas, has won the Grand Award from the Alliance for Women in Media’s annual Gracie Awards.

“The judges felt they deserved recognition above and beyond their category,” writes ABC News president James Golden in a note to staff, calling it an “extraordinary hour.”

“The response to the broadcast continues to be overwhelming, and I’m profoundly grateful that people have reached out to tell us how much they were helped,” Vargas told TVNewser. “It’s an honor to be recognized by the Gracie’s Grand award.”
