Early Show Shake-up: The Write-ups

By SteveK

Paul J. Gough writes in the Hollywood Reporter about a meeting yesterday afternoon between CBS News & Sports President Sean McManus and Rick Kaplan, with the staff of The Early Show. “(Kaplan) said he was new to the job but said that he got a good feeling from the staff during the meeting,” writes Gough.

• The New York Times’ Bill Carter writes that, with Kaplan pulling double-duty on The Early Show and the CBS Evening News, senior producer Chris Dinan will lead day-to-day duties on the evening news. Carter reports that Dinan was in charge of the newscast while Kaplan recovered from his broken hip.

• Variety’s Cynthia Littleton brings up specific segments led by Shelley Ross which “eye insiders” say led to her dismissal. “There were also concerns about her priorities for the show, with some pointing to the hoopla made in January over the show’s live concert broadcast and interview with former Beatle Ringo Starr as being out of step with the news and lifestyle fare auds expect from the show,” she writes.
