‘Early Show’ Responds to David Rhodes Memo

By Chris Ariens

In the spirit of CBS News president David Rhodes imploring his employees to produce “sustained coverage of stories which are our own,” we’re going to follow-up on our story from yesterday.

A day after sending an email to the staff of “The Early Show” for not following up on several weekend news stories featured on “48 Hours,” “Sunday Morning,” and “60 Minutes,” this morning “Early” did follow up on the “60” report on Greg Mortenson, an author accused of fabricating parts of his best-selling memoir “Three Cups of Tea.” “Early” produced a package on the story, using some of the “60 Minutes” footage, and advancing it with Mortenson’s explanation yesterday. Anchor Erica Hill then discussed it with The Daily Beast’s Lloyd Grove.
