Early Exit for Shelley Ross?

By SteveK

The New York Times’ Bill Carter writes that Senior EP of The Early Show Shelley Ross, “may be ousted from her position within the next few weeks.” Carter quotes “executives with knowledge of the situation.”

TVNewser first contacted a CBS News spokesperson after Friday’s report in the New York Post and again, when we began receiving tips of a high level meeting about Ross’ future. The Post story claimed Ross, “forced one producer to read an apology to his colleagues and ordered another to reschedule his colonoscopy because it was sweeps month.” When asked if Ross had already been let go, the spokesperson declined to comment.

In the five and a half months since Ross joined The Early Show, there have been several published reports of dissension among staffers. CBS News insiders attribute some of that dissension to staffers loyal to “the old guard,” former Senior EP Michael Bass and CBS News morning VP Steve Friedman. Bass is now working for NBC; the Times story reports Friedman’s last day at CBS was yesterday.

Before CBS, Ross held positions as top producer for ABC’s Primetime Live and Good Morning America.
