Did O’Reilly Protest Cause Firing of Cable Anchor?

CN8, Comcast’s regional news channel, has fired anchor Barry Nolan for protesting the Boston Emmy chapter’s honor of Bill O’Reilly.

Nolan tells the Boston Herald he was fired Tuesday following a two-week, unpaid suspension.

“I knew going in that there was serious risk that I’d lose my job,” Nolan told the paper.

A CN8 spokeswoman issued this statement to the paper: “Effective May 20, Barry Nolan is no longer employed by CN8, The Comcast Network.”

Nolan had sent e-mails to industry colleagues encouraging them to write to the Emmy governors and let them know “this is an appalling choice for an honor.” Nolan even said he’d invite Keith Olbermann as his guest to the May 10th ceremony. That did not happen, however.
