Diane Sawyer Talks with the Women of the Senate

By Chris Ariens

The only woman anchor of an evening newscast speaks with nearly all of the women Senators of the 113th Congress. Tonight on “World News” and on “Nightline” ABC’s Diane Sawyer sits down with Barbara Boxer, Susan Collins, Patty Murray, Barbara Mikulski, Elizabeth Warren, Deb Fischer, Claire McCaskill, Kay Hagan, Jeanne Shaheen, Amy Klobuchar. And to the left of Sawyer in this photo: Mazie Hirono, Kristen Gillibrand, Lisa Murkowski, Debbie Stabenow, Maria Cantwell, Dianne Feinstein, Mary Landrieu, Tammy Baldwin and Kelly Ayotte. Heidi Heitkamp misses out on the Sawyer soiree.

The 112th Congress wasn’t very much liked by the American people. Maybe we’ll appreciate the 113th Congress more. Probably not. But it is the most diverse in history. 98 women are in the new Congress, including these 20 senators; for the first time white men will be a minority among House Democrats;  six members are openly gay and the first Hindu, Buddhist and women combat veterans are also serving in this Congress.
