Diane Sawyer Interviews Historic Class of Female Senators

By Merrill Knox

When the new Congress is sworn in early next year, there will be 20 female senators, the most in history. ABC’s Diane Sawyer sat down with 19 of them today for an interview in the Kennedy Caucus Room to talk about their role in the Senate.

The female senators told Sawyer that with women running the show, a deal on the fiscal cliff would already be in place. “I think if we were in charge of the Senate and of the administration that we would have a budget deal by now,” Susan Collins (R-ME) told Sawyer.

The full interview will air January 3, the first day of the new Congressional term, on “World News” and “Nightline.”
