Despite Claims, Kathy Griffin Not Banned From Today

As she makes the rounds promoting her new Bravo talk show, Kathy Griffin says she won’t be on NBC’s “Today,” because she’s been banned. But a “Today” spokesperson says that’s just not true and calls the whole thing “silly.”

“I just found out, I’m very excited, I’m re-banned from the Today show,” Griffin told USA Today Friday. “Over the years since ‘Suddenly Susan’ in 1996, I have been banned and re-banned from the ‘Today’ show by several people. Katie Couric at one point. Matt Lauer at one point.”

Griffin says her ban this time was brought on by news anchor Natalie Morales.

“What I heard from their team is that I was rude to her at the Golden Globes,” says Griffin.

“The idea that ‘Today’ show anchors and hosts ban guests from appearing on the show is silly,” spokesperson Megan Kopf tells TVNewser. “There was no incident between Natalie and Kathy at the Golden Globes or anywhere else. In fact Natalie is a big fan of Kathy’s.”

Sounds like the way Griffin is promoting her new show, is by talking about how she can’t promote her new show. Bravo and NBC are both NBCU networks.
