On a snowy Saturday in Michigan, while hundreds of cable newsers were hard at work covering the primaries and caucuses, more than four dozen CNN staffers bundled up and handed out bottled water to residents of the beleaguered city of Flint. With the democratic debate taking place Sunday night in Flint staffers already there for the production distributed more than 100,000 bottles of water, part of a 500,000-bottle donation CNN has committed to in Flint.

“As you know from my notes and my comments in meetings, I have been incredibly proud of what CNN has done as we have covered this unparalleled election cycle. But I can honestly say that what we did in Flint makes me the MOST proud,” said CNN Worldwide president Jeff Zucker in a note to staff. “Our folks went to churches and homes, and met the families and children who need help.”
