David Muir: ‘I Work Very Hard to Uphold The Tradition of ABC’

By Merrill Knox

ABC’s David Muir is profiled in the latest issue of Syracuse Post-Standard’s Central New York magazine. Muir — who got his start in television at Syracuse CBS-affiliate WTVH — talks about his transition into the role of “ABC World News” weekend anchor, which he took over in February:

“It’s something,” Muir says with reverence. “These are big shoes to fill, sitting in the chair on the weekend. I often say my job is to keep Diane [Sawyer]’s chair warm two days a week. And it’s an honor to do that.

When I turn the corner and it actually says ‘World News’ and it has my name in the graphic, the first weekend they did that, I actually turned the corner, and thought, who is … [laughs], that’s me. It’s a huge responsibility.  But it’s one that I, you know, I admittedly love and work very hard to uphold the tradition of ABC through a long line of very impressive people that have been here before me, and many of them are still here.”
