David Gregory on What He Thinks Bill Clinton Was Trying to Say During Their Interview

GregoryThis morning, “Meet the Press” moderator David Gregory told his colleague Joe Scarborough what he thinks former President Bill Clinton was trying to say on the subject of wealth during their interview yesterday.

In the interview at Clinton Global Initiative America, which will air in full on this Sunday’s “Meet the Press,” Gregory asked Clinton whether wealthy politicians like he and his wife should be viewed as out of touch. Clinton stressed politicians’ policies, not wealth, is what’s most important.

“In many ways what I heard Bill Clinton saying was, ‘look, we still think we’re that couple from Arkansas…what he’s saying is your politics, your positions, your policy beliefs, your ideology, ought to speak louder than your wealth,” Gregory said on “Morning Joe.”

He added that Clinton might have wanted to “insert some language” stressing that he gets the fact that his family is very wealthy now, but they’re still committed to “the right things.”
