CNN has named David Goldman the new executive editor of CNN Business.
The announcement was made by Rachel Smolkin, SVP of Global News for CNN Digital Worldwide.
Prior to this appointment, Goldman was the managing editor of CNN Business. In that role he was oversaw coverage of breaking news, the economy and consumer brands.
Smolkin, in a note to staff, said that Goldman “will lead our digital coverage of the most important and interesting business stories of our time, from inflation and supply chain disruptions—to corporate leaders and strategy, to the changing nature of work and technology.”
Goldman fills the role vacated by Jason Farkas, who left the network in December 2021.

I am thrilled to announce that David Goldman is the new executive editor of CNN Business.
Dave is a longtime leader at CNN Business whose expertise and deep knowledge of this talented global team will guide us all during an exciting new chapter.He started at CNN nearly 15 years ago as an associate producer, pulling wire copy into the CMS. He worked his way through tech writer, tech editor, senior editor, assistant managing editor and managing editor, embracing both breaking news and distinctive content along the way.
He has been an invaluable partner, as we have worked through the structure of CNN Business within Digital and Newsgathering. As our digital news teams come together in a new, integrated newsgathering organization, Dave will lead our digital coverage of the most important and interesting business stories of our time, from inflation and supply chain disruptions to corporate leaders and strategy—to the changing nature of work and technology. We’ll deliver fast, smart and clear reporting that makes complex financial news easily understandable and relevant to our audiences.
Dave will report to me and partner with Richard Davis. We’ll also work closely with Marcus Mabry and Cathy Straight—and I want to extend a special thank you to Cathy for her leadership of Business during the past nine months.
Dave joins our global digital news leadership team alongside Allison Hoffman, Josh du Lac, Steve George, Matt Wells and Veronica Rocha. I’m looking forward to bringing all our teams closer together, serving our audiences and telling great stories.
